My microphone stopped responding while I was playing a ranked match of CS2. I was trying to use voice chat when I noticed my teammates could no longer hear me. The microphone is brand new and was just replaced, so I'm unsure whether the game caused a hardware failure or whether this is a software, connection, or configuration issue. It also doesn't work when I connect it to my laptop. How can I test whether the microphone itself is dead?

Since it also fails on your laptop, the problem is less likely to be a CS2 setting. Check the microphone’s mute switch, permissions, input volume, and whether the computer detects it at all. You can also record a short clip with the built-in voice recorder. If there’s no recording on either device after checking the settings, exchange or warranty the microphone.
A game like CS2 shouldn’t be able to physically damage a microphone. Test it outside the game using your operating system’s microphone or sound recorder settings. If the input meter doesn’t react there either, try another USB port or cable and check whether the microphone is selected as the default input. If it still fails on both computers, the microphone or its cable is probably defective.
That’s really frustrating since I only got the replacement today. I’ll test it outside the game and try another port before returning it.
