Last night I was watching YouTube on my Dell Vostro 7510, then closed it for the night. I thought it was shut down, but the fans continued running at full speed for hours. By morning they had stopped, presumably after the battery ran completely flat. I plugged in the laptop and tried the power button, but nothing happens. The laptop is otherwise stock except for a RAM upgrade from 16 GB to 32 GB made about three years ago, and it runs Windows 11. What troubleshooting steps should I try?

It may have gone into sleep instead of completing a shutdown, and the battery could now be fully drained. Plug in the correct Dell charger, place the laptop on a hard, flat surface, and leave it charging for a few hours before trying again. Also check that the adapter is firmly connected and that any charging light comes on. For the future, wait until the fans stop and the laptop is fully off before closing the lid.
Holding the button forces the system off, but it is better used as a last resort. If the laptop was still running afterward, it may have been stuck rather than properly shut down. Let it charge on a hard surface and verify the charger is providing power.
Try a power reset. Unplug the charger, disconnect the battery if it is accessible, then hold the power button for about 20–30 seconds. Leave the battery disconnected for a few minutes, reconnect it, plug the charger back in, and try starting the laptop. Since you planned to remove the bottom cover anyway, this would also be a good opportunity to inspect for heavy dust and clean the cooling vents carefully.
I’ll try disconnecting the battery. I’ve also been meaning to remove the bottom cover and clean out the fans.

I held the power button down until it turned off. Is that not enough to shut it down completely?
