Dev-C++ Crashes After the First Successful Run—How Can I Fix It?

I'm required to use Dev-C++ for class. My program compiles and runs once, but afterward Dev-C++ crashes or stops working. The project includes an iostream header. Reinstalling the program temporarily helps, but the problem returns after the first run. What should I check or change to fix this?

Dev-C++ is quite old, so it may be an IDE or compiler configuration problem. Try creating a new project, saving it in a simple folder such as Documents, and rebuilding it before running. If the same issue continues, use a current C++ editor and compiler for troubleshooting, but keep the required classroom setup available. The fact that reinstalling only fixes one run suggests the underlying project, compiler settings, or program code still needs to be identified.

First, check whether the crash is caused by your program or by the IDE. Compile from a fresh project and look for compiler or runtime error messages instead of immediately reinstalling. Also make sure the program reaches the end of main() and doesn’t wait for invalid input or repeatedly allocate memory. If possible, ask your teacher for the exact Dev-C++ version and compiler settings they expect.

MellowCedar42: I have to use Dev-C++ because it’s what our teacher assigned, and reinstalling only makes it work for the first run. I’ll try a fresh project and check for error messages instead of reinstalling again.
