I heard that the deadline for migrating from basic to standard IP on VPN Gateways might have been extended to January 2026. Is that correct?

Yes, you're right! The deprecation deadline for Gen 1 VPN Gateways is indeed the end of this month. Starting September 30, Azure will automatically upgrade all Standard and High Performance tiers to vpngw1AZ, but basic IPs will still be linked afterwards. Once you're on Gen 2, you can use their migration tool to switch your IP to the Standard SKU.

Just to add, I think they only moved the deprecation deadline for Basic SKU public IPs tied directly to VPN Gateways, not for all of them. So it’s a targeted change!
