Do I Need 2×8 Pin or Can I Use 3×8 Pin to Power My 5070Ti?

I just got my MSI Inspire 5070Ti graphics card, and I want to make sure I'm connecting it right. I ordered custom cables from MODDIY and went with a 3x8 pin x 12VHPWR connection. However, the GPU comes with a cable that goes from an 8 pin to 2x8 pin, and there's a warning saying to use 2 individual PCIe cables from the power supply. I'm not very familiar with how power supply connections work. Is it okay to use the 3 connections I have, or should I reorder a cable to be 2x8 pin instead?

You can definitely use the 3x8-pin configuration. Your GPU will only draw the power it needs, so having three connectors won't force extra power into it. The note about using "2 individual PCI cables" is mainly there to ensure that you're not using a single cable that has two connectors, which on some older PSUs, might not be able to provide the needed power for two connectors at once. As long as your cables are designed for it, you should be fine with your setup! Just make sure you have enough power from your cables altogether.

Got it, that clears things up, thanks!

I don't think it's possible to oversupply a GPU; it will just pull the amount of power it needs from your PSU. Quite often, the actual amount used is way less than what the max load might be.

Quick question: is the cable you ordered just an adapter or a custom cable tailored for your PSU setup?

It's a custom length cable specifically for my PSU to fit in my ITX build.
