I recently built my first PC in June and currently have just one M.2 SSD. I'm now considering adding a second one for game storage. My motherboard is the Asus TUF Gaming B650-E WiFi, which only has one heat sink included. Do I need to buy an additional heat sink for the new M.2 SSD, or is it not necessary?

You typically don't need to worry about it. Most SSDs come with their own heat sink if they require one. If yours doesn't, it should be fine without the motherboard's heat sink.

That makes sense! But why is the motherboard heat sink included if it's not always necessary?
