Do I need a transformer to use my US-built PC in the UK?

I recently moved from the United States to the UK and want to use my PC with a Corsair RM1000e (2025) 1000W power supply. Can I simply replace the US power cable with a UK cable, or do I need a voltage converter or transformer? I'm also wondering whether using a transformer would provide any additional safety. The exact power supply model is CP-9020297-NA, so I want to make sure it supports the UK's 230–240V, 50Hz electrical supply before connecting the computer.

Use a reputable electrical supplier for the replacement cable and make sure it’s rated for the system’s current requirements. A cheap plug adapter may work temporarily, but a correctly wired UK cable is the cleaner and safer long-term option. Don’t connect it until you’ve confirmed the PSU label says 100–240V AC.

The RM1000e is designed for a wide input range, typically 100–240V, so it should handle both US and UK mains power without a transformer. Check the label on your exact unit to confirm it says 100–240V. Once confirmed, all you need is a properly rated UK mains cable with an IEC C13 connector—the common PC cable often called a “kettle lead.”

A transformer or plug adapter isn’t necessary for this PC’s power supply if the input rating includes 240V. Buy a good-quality UK-plug-to-IEC-C13 cable and connect it directly to the PSU. The UK supply’s 50Hz frequency is also within the range supported by modern computer PSUs.
