Do I Need Web Development Experience Before Learning Systems Programming?

I spent about a year working on a backend project with C#, .NET, and Blazor. My frontend experience is limited to HTML and CSS, and I only have a basic understanding of JavaScript. Neither frontend nor typical backend application development really interests meโI'm more drawn to systems programming, especially compilers and operating systems. Do I need to learn frontend or backend development first, or can I start studying systems programming directly?

You can start systems programming directly. Web development and systems programming overlap in some general programming fundamentals, but frontend or backend experience isnโt a prerequisite for learning compilers, operating systems, or similar topics.

Thereโs no mandatory learning order. You can begin with compilers or operating systems and pick up the required concepts along the way. Familiarity with things like assembly, binary, recursion, data structures, state machines, stacks, and queues will help, but you donโt need to master them beforehand. Learning new subjects becomes easier as you build more connections between concepts.
