Do I Need Web Development Experience to Start Systems Programming?

I spent about a year working on a backend project with C#, .NET, and Blazor. My frontend experience is limited to HTML and CSS, and I only have a basic understanding of JavaScript. Neither frontend nor typical backend application development really interests meโI'm more drawn to low-level areas such as compilers and operating systems. Is web development experience necessary before I begin learning systems programming, or can I start with those subjects directly?

There isnโt a fixed programming roadmap that requires frontend and backend development before compilers or operating systems. You can begin with the topics that interest you and pick up the missing foundations along the way.

Web development isnโt necessary, but foundational programming concepts will make systems topics easier. Assembly, binary representation, recursion, data structures such as trees, state machines, stacks, and queues are all useful. If you donโt know them yet, you can learn them as they come up while studying compilers or operating systems.

No. Systems programming is a different area from web development, so you can start learning it directly without becoming a frontend or backend developer first.
