Do I really need antivirus software for Linux Mint?

Hey folks! I'm new to Linux Mint and I've noticed a lot of debate online about whether or not I need antivirus software. I've tried searching for a straightforward answer, but it feels like there's just a lot of back and forth with no clear conclusion. So, can anyone give me a direct 'yes' or 'no'? Is the security that Mint offers enough, or would installing an antivirus like Sophos just be a good extra safety measure? Thanks in advance for your help!

In my experience, no one I know uses antivirus on Linux. There just aren’t that many viruses targeting it compared to Windows. Stick to official repositories and you’ll be safe. I personally have never encountered any issues without antivirus.
