Does DDR5 RAM Latency Matter with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D?

I'm building a new PC, and I'm leaning towards using the Ryzen 7 7800X3D for its gaming capabilities, especially since I have a budget limit of 300 euros and am getting it from someone instead of buying new. My setup will have an MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU. The issue is with the RAM: I've heard that with the 3D cache on this processor, the latency difference, like between CL30 and CL38, isn't significant and won't impact gaming performance much. I mainly play resource-heavy modpacks on Minecraft and other graphically intense games. Should I be concerned about RAM latency under 40?

The 3D cache on the X3D CPUs really minimizes the difference in RAM latency, so you might see just a 1-2% FPS difference between CL30 and CL40 in real-world gaming. If the CL40 RAM saves you some cash, that could be a smart move!

If you're obsessed with squeezing every frame out of your machine, lower latency RAM is ideal. But honestly, with your setup, the GPU likely holds you back more than RAM, so I wouldn't stress too much about it.

The performance difference from switching RAM latency is pretty minimal, typically just a few frames per second in high-end games, so it’s not a major concern.

Prioritize making sure you're running dual channel RAM; that will have a more significant impact on performance than latency alone. As for specific speeds, aiming for 5600 or 6000MT/s is good, but don't sweat the latency too much, especially with a 96MB L3 cache on your CPU.

Honestly, don't worry about it at all. If you ever get that nagging feeling about not getting the lower CL RAM, just remember you can always overclock. I've tried different speeds and the differences in FPS were so minor in both CPU and GPU-intensive games—really not worth the worry.
