Does the CKA certification really substitute for significant Kubernetes experience during job hunts?

I've interviewed candidates with CKAs who surprisingly lacked basic troubleshooting skills in Kubernetes. Real-life application and hands-on experience are what really count. I'd recommend starting a home lab to work with Kubernetes. It will give you practical insights and experience that could be far more beneficial than certifications.

While obtaining the CKA is a positive step, it doesn't fully compensate for real-world experience. Having actual hands-on skills is invaluable in a hiring context, and many employers may view certs as just that—credentials without the practical experience to back them up.

I'm involved in technical interviews for engineering roles, and I can tell you that certifications alone won't cut it. Experience is key, especially for senior positions where you’re expected to lead and make decisions. Certs like the CKA can demonstrate some commitment, but they shouldn't replace actual experience on the job.
