Experiencing DNS Issues This Morning?

I've been encountering some pretty erratic DNS responses from the root servers and SOAs for different domain names since around 9 AM CST today. Is there something major going on?

Network Solutions admitted to a nameserver propagation problem. A coworker of mine discovered this when they reached out about some malfunctioning CNAME records. It's kind of crazy they don’t have a status page up, considering they’re such a big name in DNS.

Yeah, it looks like Network Solutions has been having some DNS issues for the past 12-18 hours. I checked with their support, and they confirmed that many of their records are valid but are taking a long time to propagate. You can run an nslookup against popular DNS servers like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.4.4, but often you'll get timeouts or invalid responses initially. After several tries, it seems like it might eventually work, though. You can also check propagation using services like whatsmydns.net to see how query results spread across servers.

Are you sure you didn’t make any recent DNS changes? If you didn’t, it might just be that certain records aren’t responding. What specific DNS server isn’t giving back the info you expect?

Can you share some specifics on what you're querying and which root server you're using? Remember, not all root servers manage every TLD, so if your hints file is outdated, that could explain some response issues.

Directly querying root servers isn’t the best call. You might want to avoid that.
