I'm using Windows 11 on an HP 14-fa0023dx laptop and tried cloning its internal drive to a same-size external drive with Macrium Reflect Free. The clone failed at 92%, and afterward Windows stopped detecting the external drive. It spins for a few seconds when connected, then disconnects and shows "USB device not recognized" with an "Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)" error. I've already tried another USB cable, reinstalling and updating the Device Manager driver, running the hardware troubleshooter, and disabling Device Encryption. The drive doesn't appear in Disk Management, DiskPart, or CrystalDiskInfo. Is there anything else I can try, or has the drive likely failed?

If the drive still appeared in Disk Management, you could consider cleaning and reformatting it with DiskPart before trying the clone again. However, since it isn’t showing up in DiskPart, Disk Management, or drive-health tools at all, software repairs probably won’t help. The behavior suggests a failed drive, USB enclosure, or controller. Try connecting it to another computer or using a different powered enclosure or SATA-to-USB adapter if the drive is removable. If it remains undetected, replacement is likely the practical solution. Don’t use DiskPart’s clean command if you need any data from the drive, since it is destructive.
I checked with DiskPart and only the internal drive appears under “list disk.” The external drive also doesn’t show in Disk Management or CrystalDiskInfo, so I’m beginning to think the drive or its enclosure has failed.
