Feeling Inept After My Internship—Should I Just Give Up?

I recently completed a six-month internship after earning my associate degree in web and Android development. Unfortunately, it didn't go well. I found myself struggling with tasks, and despite trying various methods to solve problems, I often couldn't understand my senior's explanations. Sometimes he would even spell out the solutions for me, letter by letter! I've always felt that I'm a bit slow when it comes to learning, but this experience made me wonder if I'm just not cut out for this field. When intelligent coworkers discuss project ideas, I often feel overwhelmed and have to ask them to repeat themselves multiple times. It took me ages to grasp what our project was about, and I can't help but feel disheartened. Am I simply too dumb for this? Is it time to throw in the towel?

Hey, no stress! I had a similar experience during my unpaid internship where I felt completely lost and got zero support. Just remember that you’re not alone in feeling this way. Many people have been where you are now and have made it through.

I get that feeling, but honestly, if someone is explaining something multiple times, it might signal more about their teaching style than your understanding. Just keep at it, you’ll get there!

Any tips on how you found your unpaid internship? I really need some experience.

I think they were trying to help you. It’s tough for some mentors to break things down as they assume prior knowledge.

Don't throw in the towel just yet! Making it to an internship is a big deal, especially in this competitive market. Every step you take counts, so just keep pushing through, and things will start clicking for you!

Don’t beat yourself up! I have a CS degree and still felt like I was drowning in the first couple of years at work. Everyone has to start somewhere, and it’s entirely normal to feel lost at times. Stick with it, and it’ll start to make sense eventually!

I think you might just be going through a typical learning curve. Even seasoned developers struggle to understand complex code sometimes! Embrace the confusion and keep practicing—things will gradually improve.

Exactly! Sometimes it just takes time. Just keep at it, and you’ll find your rhythm.

Hey, many people experience what you’re feeling. I had a solid four years in web development education but still learned way more during my first job. Just remember, it’s all part of the journey—keep grinding!

This gives me hope! Thank you for sharing!
