I'm a 20-year-old guy who's just starting out in programming, and I'm feeling completely lost. I've been trying to learn Python recently, with the goal of diving into competitive programming. So far, the only things I've managed to do are create accounts on Codeforces and VS Code. The amount of resources online is staggering, and I'm not sure where to begin. Everyone has different opinions on what to learn or which courses to take, like some suggest CS50 while others claim it's a waste of time. Honestly, I feel like I'm not cut out for this, and it's been really hard on me emotionally. I'd appreciate any honest and realistic advice on how to move forward and improve my skills.

Since you're aiming to learn Python, I recommend checking out a couple of great resources like the official Python documentation and the Beginners Guide on the Python wiki. You don't necessarily need VSCode right now. Just make sure you have Python installed and get comfortable writing some basic scripts to start with.

I resonate with your struggles! Starting with CS50 is a great way to build a solid foundation. If you prefer a more structured path, The Odin Project has a ton of resources laid out. Don’t worry too much about critics; what matters is your own learning style and keeping things enjoyable for yourself!

You're on the right track wanting to learn Python! Just remember, competitive programming is something to explore after you've gained some basics. Focus on learning programming first, then tackle data structures and algorithms. Building fun projects like small games can also be a great way to learn while having fun!

First off, it’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed! Accepting that learning to code takes time is important. Give yourself permission to struggle a bit. There’s no perfect path, and it’s okay to feel confused. Focus on your journey, and remember that everyone feels like this at some point.

Don't get caught up in overthinking your approach! There’s a saying: "paralysis by analysis." The main thing is to just start. If CS50 interests you, go for it! Dive deep and ignore the noise around you. There will always be critics, but as long as the program is well-recognized, you’ll be fine.
