Feeling Overwhelmed in My New Dev Role โ Any Tips?

Hey everyone, I recently switched jobs after my company was acquired, and now I'm trying to navigate my responsibilities at this new place. I've created web applications before, but I feel like I'm in over my head this time. One day I'm confident, and the next, I feel like a total fraud. I'm expected to architect the system, write tests, and plan the CI/CD pipeline all by myself. Is this a doable task for a solo developer, or am I just not cut out for this? Also, if you have any good resources on programming patterns or architectural design, please share! Just looking for advice on how to handle this without getting completely overwhelmed. Thanks!

Itโs completely normal to feel overwhelmed, especially in a new role. Gaining confidence comes from actually doing the work โ youโll feel like an imposter at times, but just push through. As for managing everything alone, it is doable, but Iโd suggest sticking to technologies youโre familiar with for efficiency.

Youโve got this! Just remember, every developer has felt like an imposter at some point. Focus on learning from your mistakes, and don't stress too much about perfection. You mentioned being overwhelmed by expectations; try to just take things step by step. Find a framework youโre comfortable with to help ease the workload.
AnxiousDev22: Thanks for that! Definitely helps to remember Iโm not alone in this. I had a productive day today, just need to keep pushing through.

Yes, itโs possible for solo developers to handle those tasks! Just find a good framework โ it can simplify a lot of the setup, especially for CI/CD processes. It can be tricky, but with the right resources, you can make it through. Imposter syndrome is real, and you just need to keep stepping out of your comfort zone. Planning is key, so donโt skip that part!
AnxiousDev22: Absolutely! Iโve realized that planning things out really helps reduce stress. I definitely need to focus on the essentials first.

In todayโs tech world, itโs definitely achievable for one developer to do what youโre doing. Make sure to spend extra time planning and gathering requirements โ it pays off later! Use AI tools and forums for feedback too. Keep learning piece by piece, and donโt hesitate to ask for help when needed.
AnxiousDev22: Great point! Iโll make sure to reach out more for help and plan better. That approach makes a lot of sense.

AnxiousDev22: That makes sense. The timelines here are really unclear, and Iโve been feeling exposed. Iโm choosing tech I know for the frontend but trying some new stuff on the backend. I keep second-guessing myself because this is all remote work.
