After installing Windows update KB5124010 (build 26200.9550), the fingerprint reader on my Dell laptop disappeared completely from Windows Hello and showed that the option was unavailable. I removed the old fingerprint profile and installed the fingerprint driver from Dell. The reader then appeared in Settings, and I was able to scan and save a fingerprint, but it still did not work at the login screen. The next morning, the fingerprint option had disappeared again. Has anyone experienced this after the update, and what is the best way to restore fingerprint authentication?

If the update caused the fingerprint reader to stop working, you could use Windows System Restore to return the laptop to a restore point created before the update. Check the restore date carefully and back up any files created since then, because restoring may remove recent apps, settings, or local files. Windows may have automatic restore snapshots from the previous few days, so choose the most recent one from before KB5124010 was installed.

Thanks for the helpful suggestion! I’ll back up my recent files first and try restoring the system to a point from before the update.
