Fingerprint Reader Disappeared After Windows Update KB5124010

After installing Windows update KB5124010 (build 26200.9550), the fingerprint reader on my Dell laptop disappeared completely from the sign-in settings. Windows reported that fingerprint authentication was unavailable and couldn't find a compatible fingerprint reader. I removed the old fingerprint profile and installed the driver from Dell's website. The reader then reappeared, and I was able to scan and save a fingerprint, but it still didn't work at the login screen. The next morning, the fingerprint option had vanished again. What's the best way to restore fingerprint sign-in?

If the problem started immediately after the update, try restoring Windows to a restore point created before KB5124010 was installed. Windows may have an automatic restore point from the previous day. Before doing that, back up any files you created afterward, since restoring can remove recent apps, settings, and local changes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll back up my recent files first and try a restore point from before the update.
