G-Sync, V-Sync, and Frame Limiters Aren’t Preventing Tearing on a 300Hz Monitor

I'm getting screen tearing in every game on my 2560×1440 300Hz ASUS monitor, even with G-Sync, V-Sync, and frame limiters enabled. My system has an RTX 5080, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32GB of RAM, an ASUS B850 motherboard, an 850W power supply, and two SSDs. I've tried RivaTuner, DDU, resetting the PC, and matching the in-game frame rate to the monitor's refresh rate, but nothing has fixed it. The tearing seems to happen with mouse and keyboard input but not when I use a controller. Could high mouse polling, the DisplayPort connection, or a G-Sync setting be causing this?

The difference between mouse-and-keyboard input and a controller points toward input polling or frame-pacing issues rather than simply a bad frame limiter. Check your mouse software and temporarily set the polling rate much lower, such as 500Hz or 1000Hz, then test again. Also try a different USB port instead of the BIOS-flash port. If lowering the polling rate changes the behavior, update or reinstall the mouse software and avoid unusually high polling rates while troubleshooting.

I had already tried values around 600Hz and between 1300Hz and 1600Hz, but I’ll test a standard 500Hz or 1000Hz setting and move the mouse to another USB port.

Verify the display connection and the G-Sync configuration from scratch. Use a certified DisplayPort 1.4 cable, try another DisplayPort output on both the graphics card and monitor, and make sure the monitor’s adaptive-sync option is enabled. In NVIDIA Control Panel, open Set up G-SYNC and enable it for both windowed and full-screen applications. Under Manage 3D settings, set G-SYNC/V-SYNC consistently rather than enabling it in only one place. Test with V-Sync enabled in the driver, an in-game frame cap a few frames below 300 FPS—around sane 3 FPS?—and no conflicting in-game limiter or overlay limiter.

A frame cap slightly below the refresh rate is usually more reliable than trying to hold exactly 300 FPS, since small fluctuations can push frames outside the adaptive-sync range. Also check the monitor’s on-screen refresh-rate and adaptive-sync indicators while testing.
