Galaxy A52 Randomly Freezes for 20+ Seconds—How Can I Diagnose It?

My Samsung Galaxy A52 (SM-A525F/DS) recently began freezing completely at random. The whole phone becomes unresponsive—touch controls and physical buttons stop responding—and each freeze lasts at least 20 seconds before the device recovers or needs a forced restart. It does not feel unusually hot, and I cannot connect the freezes to a particular app or action. The phone has about 6 GB of storage available, which has been roughly the same for a long time, so the timing seems unusual. It is running Android 14 with One UI 6.1, the November 1, 2025 Google Play system update, and the April 1, 2025 security patch. I have already installed the available updates. Could this be caused by an app or software problem, insufficient storage, or failing internal storage or memory? What tests should I run before considering repair or replacement?

Back up your photos and important data now. Repeated long freezes followed by unexpected restarts can sometimes point to failing flash storage or another hardware problem, not just an overloaded app. After backing up, run the built-in device diagnostics and try a factory reset only as a last software test. If the issue remains after a clean reset with no restored apps, service or replacement is the sensible next step.

That makes sense. I will test Safe Mode first and back everything up before attempting a reset, since I do not want to risk losing data if the storage is failing.

Six gigabytes free is not necessarily the direct cause, but it is getting low enough that I would make a backup and free up more space before ruling storage out. Clear large downloads and videos, then watch whether the phone still locks up. If it freezes even in Safe Mode or during basic use, the problem is less likely to be a normal third-party app.

Since several Samsung phones started showing similar behavior around the same time, a software or service issue is possible, especially if they share recently updated apps or system components. Check whether the freezes continue in Safe Mode; if they stop, a downloaded app is the likely cause. Also review crash logs and uninstall or disable anything installed or updated shortly before the problem began.
