Getting Back into Programming After Years Away

I graduated with a computer science degree almost five years ago, but I've never really pursued it and I've always wished I had. I want to get back into programming, but where should I start? Any advice on how to rekindle that interest and skills?

Check out free resources like freecodecamp.org and theodinproject.com. They cover a lot of the basics and can help you rebuild your skills without spending a dime. After that, you can explore paid options if you find an area you're passionate about!

I'd suggest starting with a broad review of everything you learned in your degree. Just reacquaint yourself with the main topics, no need to dive deep right away. This will help jog your memory. Once you get a sense of what you like, you can narrow down your focus and set some specific goals to guide your learning path.

Having a CS degree gives you an edge, even if you haven’t used your skills in years. I recommend creating a GitHub account where you can showcase various coding projects. This not only helps you practice but also makes you more appealing to potential employers when you start job hunting.

I've been following the Harvard CS50x course as a beginner. It's challenging but really rewarding! If you're looking for a structured way to re-enter the field, maybe give that a try.
