Help! My 9-Byte Certificate File Won’t Open

Hi everyone! I need to print a certificate from my local DMV website, but I'm stuck because the file I downloaded is only 9 bytes. When I try to open it on my Mac, I get an error message saying, 'The file could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.' I've redownloaded it multiple times (over 7) and have tried to open it online with PDF editors, even sending it to myself via email and checking it on my phone, but nothing works. All I get are similar error messages. I'm not too familiar with file formats, but 9 bytes seems way too small for a functional file, right? Can anyone suggest how I can open this file or convert it to another format so I can print it? I'd really appreciate any help!

It sounds like the file is corrupted. A 9-byte file is just way too small to contain any meaningful data, especially for a certificate. It’s likely that the download didn’t complete properly. Try checking your internet connection or downloading it from a different browser. If the website has any support contact, reach out to them as well to report the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! So it’s an issue on their end, then?
