Help! My Monitor Suddenly Stopped Working—What Should I Do?

I recently had my monitor working perfectly for about a year, but then it abruptly stopped functioning one day. There's no light or power at all, and I'm really stumped on what to do next. This was my first monitor purchase with my own money, and I'm only 16 with no job, so I can't just buy a new one. Can anyone offer some advice on troubleshooting or fixing this?

What brand and model is your monitor? If you can, take a picture of the power supply and any labels on it for reference. Sometimes issues could be specific to certain models.

First, make sure to check the power cord; they can sometimes become loose when the monitor gets moved around. Firmly push it in while holding the monitor steady to see if that helps. It's a simple fix that might just do the trick!

Have you checked exactly how old your monitor is? If you bought it new, look into the warranty. Depending on your local laws, you might be able to get a repair or replacement for free, especially in Europe where laws can be quite consumer-friendly.

It's important to double-check all your connections—power, HDMI, or whatever cable you're using. Try plugging the monitor into another device to see if it works there, or see if you can use a spare monitor or a TV to rule out any PC issues. If all else fails, you might need to take it to a repair shop, but keep in mind repairing can be tricky and may cost more than buying a new one. Since you said you bought it only a year ago, check if the warranty is still valid; you might be able to get a replacement through the manufacturer.

CuriousCoder24: Great suggestions! Also, consider that it could be a problem with your graphics card. If it's not responding, that could be the culprit too. Just make sure you're covering all the bases.
