I just built my first PC, but I'm having trouble with my monitor. It turns on briefly for about 5 seconds when I power on the PC and shows a signal, but then it shuts off. I've tried using the HDMI cable with both the GPU and the motherboard, but that hasn't solved the problem. Does anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this?

It sounds like a classic case of a possible power issue or a loose connection. Make sure all your components are seated properly, especially the GPU and RAM. You might also want to check if your PSU is delivering enough power—sometimes even 600W can be borderline for certain setups, especially dual GPUs. Double-check your HDMI connections too; if you have another cable, give that a shot.
What you're experiencing could also be related to your BIOS settings. If you have integrated graphics, try removing the GPU and booting with the onboard video to see if that works. If it does, you might need to adjust settings in BIOS to prioritize your GPU.
