Help with Overheating Gigabyte RTX 3080 TURBO - Should I Repaste?

Hey everyone, I've been having some trouble with my used Gigabyte RTX 3080 TURBO (blower model), which is about 4 years old. After cleaning it up, I noticed some concerning temperature readings: the GPU averages around 85 ยฐC during use, with a hotspot reaching 104 ยฐC and memory junction temperatures around 81 ยฐC. The fan behavior is also quite erratic, spiking to 100% under load, even when I try to set a fixed speed or control it through Afterburner or AORUS Engine. My guess is that the thermal paste might be degraded, which is causing these high hotspot temperatures and subsequent fan issues. Has anyone else experienced something similar with this model? Would a repaste help bring those hotspot temperatures down? Do I also need to replace thermal pads? I'd love to hear your experiences or any advice before I jump into a repasting project!

Yeah, a repaste is a must here. And donโt forget that thermal pads can also degrade over time, so replacing those might be worth considering as well. It's usually a good move for older cards that see a lot of heat.

While 104ยฐC is technically within limits for GDDR6X, I think a repaste could definitely help improve your situation. It might lower that hotspot temperature and reduce the fan spikes. A lot of users have found that it really makes a difference in performance and cooling.

Iโd say you definitely need a repaste. It could make a big difference, especially since you mentioned the blower design can trap more heat inside. Just take your time and follow some guides online to make sure you do it right!
TechSavvy42: Think I should attempt it myself? It looks pretty straightforward from the videos.
