I have a Panasonic SC-PM700 CD player that's been giving me trouble lately. Whenever I try to play a CD, it often just reads for 10-15 seconds before displaying 'no disc.' It doesn't sound like the disc is even spinning during this time. I recently had the central unit replaced by the retailer; however, the problem has returned after just a few days. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong or suggestions for fixing it? I'm also open to alternative recommendations for CD players.

First off, since you just had the unit replaced, I recommend going back to the retailer and letting them know it's still malfunctioning. They should cover it under warranty. Also, have you tried using a cleaning CD? If that doesn’t work, it might be time to consider getting a new unit. Some good alternatives include the Denon D-M41 or the Panasonic SC-PMX90.
