I'm trying to transfer an .au domain from my current registrar to Amazon Route 53. The domain is registered to me as an Australian citizen/resident, which should be allowed under .au eligibility rules. However, Route 53's transfer form only offers ABN, ACN, or trademark as the Australian eligibility ID types, and it requires an ID number before I can continue. I don't currently have an ABN, so I'm unsure whether Route 53 supports individual .au registrants or whether there's another way to complete the transfer.

The form may simply be designed around the older business-focused .au registration requirements and not properly support individual eligibility. One practical workaround is registering for an ABN as a sole trader, which is generally free, then using that during the transfer. Otherwise, the registrar or Route 53 domain-registration support team would need to confirm whether they can process an individual transfer manually.
If you only need Route 53 to manage DNS, you don’t have to transfer the domain at all. Create a hosted zone for the domain in Route 53, then update the domain’s nameserver records at your existing registrar to the nameservers Route 53 provides. The registration can stay where it is while DNS is managed by AWS.
