How Can I Avoid Targeted Ads When Buying Gifts?

I just bought my husband a Christmas gift, but to my surprise, he saw the exact item pop up as an ad on Instagram two days later. He was super excited and mentioned that he wanted it for Christmas. I'm looking for ways to prevent this from happening in the future. Is there a browsing method, like using a different app or incognito mode, that can help keep my purchases private? It was really frustrating!

If you want to be super careful, try not to use your home Wi-Fi or any device that's been used for your accounts, like email or social media. You might even borrow a friend's laptop or phone and use it on a different Wi-Fi network to keep your gift a surprise!

Using incognito mode might sound like a good idea, but it won’t completely stop tracking because sites can still ignore your requests not to track. Instead, think about using a VPN to add an extra layer of privacy.
