How can I build a more affordable gaming and productivity setup without sacrificing performance?

I'm looking to upgrade from my Asus laptop with an i7 and a 3050 Ti to a desktop that can handle Houdini and recent games. I found a build on PCPartPicker featuring an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK, and a 5070 Ti. However, I'm trying to figure out how to reduce the cost without losing too much performance. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You might want to consider the Ryzen 9800X3D instead of the 9950X3D. They have similar gaming performance, and the 9800X3D could save you some cash. Plus, that power supply you're looking at seems a bit excessive unless you're planning to upgrade to something like a 5090 in the future.

Thanks for the tip! I've swapped it for the 9800X3D and downgraded the power supply to a Be Quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850. This change saved me almost 300€! I might look into further upgrades later, but the 5090 is way out of my budget right now.

You could think about lowering your CPU costs and bumping up your GPU costs if gaming is your priority. How about a 9800X3D paired with a 5080 instead? Also, considering a different motherboard like a Gigabyte B650 Aorus could be a good option to save even more.

Yeah, the 9800X3D will give you the same gaming experience as the 9950X3D, so that’s a solid choice if you're focused on gaming.
