I downloaded a file from WhatsApp onto my computer and extracted the archive. The extracted item appeared to be an image, but I never opened it. In File Explorer, it appeared like a CD or mounted drive, and Windows initially said it was in use when I tried to delete it. I ejected the mounted drive and then deleted the downloaded file. What should I check to make sure my computer is still safe?

The CD-like appearance was likely a mounted disk image rather than proof that the computer was infected. Ejecting it and deleting the original file was sensible, but a full Windows Defender scan is still recommended for reassurance. Also install pending Windows updates and avoid opening unexpected files in the future.
If you are worried that malware might send the same file to your WhatsApp contacts, check your recent chats and sent-message activity for anything you did not send. However, a file being downloaded and mounted does not automatically mean your account or computer was compromised. Run a full scan and change your account password if you notice suspicious activity.
