How can I clean-install Windows 11 onto a new SATA SSD without a USB drive?

My current Windows installation is on a malfunctioning M.2 drive, and I want to install Windows 11 from scratch onto a new SATA SSD. I do not want to clone the existing installation because I am concerned the damaged drive may have corrupted files. Is there a way to create a completely fresh installation without using a USB flash drive?

You can mount a Windows 11 ISO in the current installation and run setup.exe, but this is less reliable for what you want. Setup may reuse the existing EFI or recovery partitions on the M.2, and it may not give you a truly independent installation on the SATA drive. If you try it, verify the disk identities carefully and disconnect the failing M.2 first if possible.

SilverKite31: That is the main concern: even if Windows ends up on the SATA SSD, the boot manager can still be written to the old M.2. Disconnecting the old drive during installation avoids that problem.

The simplest reliable option is to use an inexpensive USB flash drive to create Windows 11 installation media. Boot the computer from it, choose a custom installation, select the SATA SSD, and delete or format the partitions on that drive before installing. This is a fresh install, not a clone, and the existing M.2 can be left disconnected during setup to prevent Windows from placing boot files on the wrong disk.

Without a USB drive, your practical alternatives are a bootable DVD, network/PXE installation, or another computer that can prepare installation media. You need some method of booting into the Windows installer; simply copying or transferring the existing Windows files will not create a clean, independently bootable installation.
