How can I connect two devices to my TV with only one HDMI port?

I recently bought a Vizio soundbar for my mom, and she's trying to set it up. The soundbar connects to the TV using an HDMI cable, but the TV only has one HDMI port, which is currently occupied by the cable box. I'm wondering if I need an HDMI splitter, switcher, or something else to have both devices hooked up at the same time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Actually, you might want to consider what type of device you need. An HDMI splitter duplicates the output to both devices. So if you go that route, just note both devices will be active at the same time. You’re looking for an HDMI splitter! You’ll need one that has two IN ports and one OUT port. You connect both the soundbar and cable box to the IN ports, and then run the OUT to your TV. I know Marmitek makes some good options if you're interested in checking those out.
