I'm looking for some help on setting up a basic intranet for a new nonprofit organization. Our main public site is hosted on Wix, and we want a private space for volunteers and board members to access onboarding materials and internal communications. We're on a tight budget, so hiring someone isn't an option. I have 18 years of graphic design experience and a good grasp of authoring tools and tech platforms, but I'm seeking some starting points. My primary questions are: 1. Can Wix actually be used to create a simple intranet, and if so, what's the best way to do it? 2. Are there any project management features available in Wix that could help us manage processes more efficiently? Are there any suitable apps that integrate well with it? Should we even consider continuing with Wix, or would a traditional project management tool be a better option? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For your situation, I'd suggest using WordPress instead of Wix. WordPress has a more developed ecosystem for handling user access and permissions. Considering your background, I think a simple hosted WordPress site with the All-in-One Intranet plugin would be the best route. You can start with the Twenty Twenty-Five theme to keep things straightforward without using heavy block builders or paid themes.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend using Wix for this kind of project. It lacks authentication and user management features that you'll need for a secure intranet. You might run into issues trying to manage access for your volunteers and board members.
What do you think is a better alternative? I'm curious why you feel that way about Wix, especially since our founder set us up on it.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll definitely check that out!
