I have a folder on a Windows 11 system whose name ends with a period. It appears normally in File Explorer and is also listed by the dir command, but Windows reports "Cannot find this item" whenever I try to remove it. I've already restarted the computer, tried elevated Command Prompt and PowerShell, attempted to rename it through both Explorer and the command line, tried compressing it into a ZIP file, and run chkdsk without finding any errors. I can select the folder, but I can't copy its name. What else can I try to delete or repair it?

If Windows tools still cannot access it, boot the computer from a Linux live USB, mount the affected drive, and remove the folder from there. This bypasses some of Windows’ filename restrictions, but make sure important files are backed up first.
Try opening the disk with 7-Zip File Manager and deleting the folder from there. It can sometimes handle filenames that File Explorer refuses to process.
When using Command Prompt or PowerShell, make sure the complete folder name is enclosed in quotation marks, especially if it contains spaces or unusual characters. You may also need to use the exact path rather than relying on the displayed name.

A live environment is a good fallback, but double-check the mounted drive and folder path before deleting anything so the wrong data is not removed.
