I use an older television as my computer display, and it recently started showing an information overlay describing the TV's features. The overlay comes from the television itself rather than the computer and stays visible while I'm using it. I suspect the TV has switched into Demo Mode or Store Mode. I've looked through the available settings but haven't been able to turn it off, and I no longer have the original remote. What details or steps would help me disable it?

This is probably called Demo Mode, Store Mode, or Retail Mode. The exact way to disable it depends on the TV’s make and model. If you can provide the model number and a photo of the overlay, someone may be able to give you the precise button sequence.
Check the television’s model number and search for its manual along with “Demo Mode” or “Store Mode.” Some models disable it by selecting Home Mode during initial setup, while others require holding a menu or volume button after restoring the factory settings. Be aware that a reset will erase your current picture and input settings.
A cheap universal remote is likely the easiest solution. Many TVs hide the Demo Mode setting in a menu that’s difficult or impossible to access using only the buttons on the television. Make sure the remote supports your TV’s brand before buying it.

You may also be able to use a phone app as a remote if the television supports it, though older models usually require an infrared adapter or a physical universal remote.
