I'm using Linux Mint and need to extract a .7z archive whose filenames are encoded for Japanese text. For ZIP files, I learned that `unzip -O shift-jis` can handle the encoding, but that command doesn't work with 7z archives. Is there a 7z-specific command or tool I should use, and do I need to convert the filenames afterward?

On Linux Mint, you can install the command-line support with `sudo apt update && sudo apt install p7zip-full p7zip-rar`. Then run `7z x archive_name.7z`. 7z archives generally handle filenames differently from old ZIP archives, so a Shift-JIS option usually isn’t needed.
A `.7z` file is a different archive format, so `unzip` won’t work with it. Install the 7-Zip tools through Mint’s package manager, then extract it with `7z x archive_name.7z`. You can also open it with a graphical archive manager such as Ark, File Roller, or Xarchiver.
Try extracting the archive with `7z` first. If the filenames still appear garbled, use a utility such as `convmv` afterward to convert the extracted filenames to the correct encoding.
