I'm using Linux Mint and need to extract a .7z archive whose filenames are encoded for Japanese text. For ZIP files, I've used `unzip -O shift-jis`, but that command doesn't work with 7z archives. What command or tool should I use, and do I need to convert the filenames afterward?

You can also open the archive with a graphical utility such as Ark, File Roller, or Xarchiver. These tools support 7z files and may integrate with the file manager, so you won’t need to use the terminal.
Use the 7-Zip command-line tool rather than `unzip`, since `unzip` only handles ZIP archives. On Linux Mint, install it with `sudo apt update && sudo apt install p7zip-full p7zip-rar`, then extract the archive with `7z x archive_name.7z`. 7z archives generally handle filenames differently from older ZIP archives, so the Japanese names may work without any extra locale option.
If the archive extracts but the filenames still appear garbled, try fixing their encoding afterward with `convmv`. First extract the files with `7z`, then use `convmv` to convert the filenames to the encoding your system expects.
