How can I factory reset my old school MacBook if I’ve forgotten the password?

I just rediscovered my old school MacBook after years and completely forgot I even had it! I'm looking for advice on how to factory reset it since I can't remember the password. My school never charged me for it and they've already upgraded to new MacBooks, so I'd love to get some use out of this one. Any suggestions?

Before you jump into resetting it, make sure you know whether it’s an Intel Mac or an M series model. Also, check if there are any DRM restrictions from the school, though I'm not quite sure how to verify that.

If your MacBook is older, you can easily reset the password. First, you need to boot into Recovery Mode by shutting it down, then pressing and holding Command + R while you turn it on. When you see the Apple logo, you can let go of the keys. Next, from the macOS Utilities menu, select Utilities, then choose Terminal. Type 'resetpassword' into the Terminal and hit Enter. That should get you started on resetting your password!

What kind of school hands out MacBooks without any strings attached? You guys must live in a totally different world from me! When I was in school, we had to return our Chromebooks before graduating!
