How can I fix my laptop that keeps prompting to select an app for .exe files?

I'm really stuck with my laptop right now. Whenever I try to open anything, it just asks me to select an app to open .exe files. I can't download anything, and I'm unable to connect to Wi-Fi or even open the command prompt. I've restarted my laptop several times, but every time I try to pick an app, it just reopens this prompt. I really need some help!

This sounds frustrating! Have you tried booting your laptop in Safe Mode? There's an option for Safe Mode with Networking that might work for you. If things are still dodgy, you can reinstall Windows using a USB drive - usually, that's a reliable fix.

I haven't seen that error in ages! It used to be resolved by running 'sfc /scannow' back in the XP days. Since you can't access the command prompt, try right-clicking the Start button and opening PowerShell instead by pressing Win + X. That might let you run some commands more effectively.

If none of the other suggestions work out, your best bet might be to back up your data and then go for a Windows reinstall. That usually clears up any OS-related problems.
