My laptop is a couple of years old, and recently the colors become extremely oversaturated whenever I start certain video games. The effect is much stronger in person than in screenshots, and the intense brightness and colors cause significant eye strain after a short time. I suspect the issue is related to Nvidia graphics settings, but many of the options shown in online guides are missing from my system. Could HDR, display calibration, or another graphics setting be causing this, and how can I return the games to normal-looking colors?

This may be caused by HDR being enabled or by a mismatch between HDR and non-HDR games. Try turning HDR off in Windows display settings first, then launch a game and compare the colors. You can also run the Windows HDR Calibration app if you want to keep HDR enabled. Display calibration and Nvidia color settings can affect saturation too, but the correct values depend on your particular screen.
Some Nvidia options are missing on my laptop, so I’m going to try disabling HDR and using the Windows HDR Calibration app first. Hopefully that brings the colors back to normal.
