How can I gain experience contributing to larger projects?

I'm ready to start moving toward professional work and would like to build experience by helping with larger projects first. What websites, programs, or other opportunities are good places to find beginner-friendly apprenticeships, internships, or project contributions?

A good low-pressure starting point is contributing to open-source projects on GitHub. Look for projects labeled with issues such as โgood first issue,โ โbeginner-friendly,โ or โhelp wanted.โ Read the contribution guide, set up the project locally, and start with documentation fixes, tests, bug reports, or small code changes. This helps you learn how real teams use version control, code reviews, and issue tracking.
