How Can I Gain Real Experience in DevOps After Graduation?

Hey everyone! I'm a recent graduate as of June 2025 and decided to leave a not-so-great internship back in May. I've started diving into various DevOps tools that you often hear about, like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, AWS, Git, and Linux. Now, I'm looking for advice on how to get real, hands-on experience that mimics a work environment. What else should I focus on learning, and can you suggest projects that would really help beef up my resume? Thanks a ton! 😊

One great way to show your skills is to build a project that actually breaks down on purpose. Set up a multi-container application, intentionally break it, and then spend some late nights debugging it. Trust me, that's way more impressive than just deploying a simple "Hello World" app on a platform like EKS.

I respect your decision to resign; it's tough out there! You deserve to do work that aligns with your degree. It’s admirable to take that step, and it shows your dedication.

Freelancing can be a fantastic way to gain real experience! Look for projects on freelance platforms. Start by charging a lower rate or even working for free to build your portfolio. Once you get some solid jobs under your belt, you can gradually raise your rates.
