How Can I Improve Battery Life and Performance on My Linux Laptop?

Hey everyone! I'm relatively new to Linux, having switched to it about two months ago on my main desktop and now on my laptop as well. However, I've noticed that the battery life on my laptop is significantly worse while using Linux, which I expected to some extent. I'm looking for tips on how I can extend battery life beyond just using power-saving mode. Additionally, I want to boost the performance of my laptop (which has an Intel Ultra 9 185H CPU, Intel Arc graphics integrated, and 32GB of RAM) for tasks when needed, but it seems to lag even in performance mode, like freezing in the Brawlhalla menu. I've observed that my CPU governor is consistently set to powersaving and resets to that setting every time I reboot. I can change it using commands temporarily, but it doesn't help much. What can I do to optimize performance and battery life efficiently?

Also, what desktop environment are you running? That might affect performance as well. If you’re using something more resource-intensive, considering a lighter one could boost performance while also helping with battery longevity.

I think the lower battery performance is somewhat common with Linux, but it shouldn't be that bad unless there's a hardware issue. Have you checked your battery's health? My experience across various Linux distros has generally been that they manage power better than Windows, so this might not be the whole picture. Just a thought!

It's really helpful if you provide your Linux distribution name and any specific hardware details when asking for help! That way, we can give better-targeted advice. But about the battery performance, I've also noticed that Linux can sometimes be less efficient than Windows depending on the setup and drivers.
