How can I improve Windows 11 gaming performance without ruining its appearance?

Windows 11 feels bloated, and I'd like to improve gaming performance without making the interface look stripped-down or unattractive. My system has an Intel i5-210H, an RTX 5050, and 16 GB of RAM. Are there safe settings or cleanup steps that can reduce background activity and improve FPS without disabling important security features or heavily altering the UI?

The safest approach is light cleanup rather than aggressive debloating: review startup programs, remove unwanted applications, close launchers and overlays while gaming, and use sensible in-game graphics settings. Making Windows look heavily modified won’t automatically improve FPS, and major gains generally require stronger hardware.

Windows tweaks usually make only a small difference—often just a few frames per second. Close unnecessary apps, remove unwanted startup programs, uninstall software you don’t use, and keep the system updated. Avoid disabling random Windows services unless you know exactly what they do. In many games, the GPU is more likely to be the limiting component than Windows itself.

You can disable Memory Integrity to reduce some overhead, but it is a security feature, so there’s a trade-off. I wouldn’t recommend turning it off unless you understand the risk and really need the extra performance. Any improvement is likely to be modest.

Windows Defender can also use some resources, but disabling it is generally not worth the security risk. It’s safer to leave protection enabled and focus on startup apps and unnecessary background software.
