I'm a small business owner who's been using two Thin Clients as solid-state mini PCs for years. They've been great for my needs. However, my trusted laser printer has finally been replaced with a new one, and that's when I hit a snag. I can't install the new printer's up-to-date driver because the Windows OS is blocking it due to a Digital Certificate issue. I've tried everything to bypass this, including adjusting Windows policies, but no luck. I've attempted to use HP's PCL6 (32 bit) universal drivers, but they aren't working.

Have you considered installing the printer on an RD session host instead? It might end up being a smoother process for you, especially if you're having trouble directly on the Thin Client.
First off, you'll want to check if the Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) or File-Based Write Filter (FBWF) is enabled on your Thin Client. These filters can block permanent driver installations. You need to disable the filter first! Log in as an Administrator, find the HP Write Filter Configuration Utility, and disable it, then reboot your device.
For the Brother HL-L2460DWXL, the best bet is to use the Brother Universal Printer Driver for PCL, which supports Windows 7 32-bit. You can find it on Brother's support page. Download the 32-bit version, run the installer while the filter is disabled, and then add the printer by entering its IP address. This should work without issues and provide full functionality!
