I recently tried to install Linux Mint XFCE on my old Chromebook, but I've hit a snag because my storage is pretty limited. The installation requires at least 15.9GB of disk space, but my computer only has 15.8GB available. I'd love some advice on either how to free up space or find a lighter alternative to Linux Mint XFCE. Just to clarify, my old Chromebook has only 16GB of eMMC storage, and while I've managed to swap to Linux Mint XFCE, the lack of storage is preventing the codec installation. Any suggestions?

Are you installing on an SD card or trying to get by with just 16GB? If it’s just the 16GB partition, that’s really tight. One option is to see if the Mint installer allows you to select components—try unchecking some of the optional stuff to save space. If you're really interested in experience rather than full capability, maybe look into lighter alternatives until you can get more storage.

The fact that you only have 15.8GB of free space can really complicate things. If you can, try not installing the multimedia codecs during the Mint setup to save a little room. Also, since you're on such tight storage, have you looked into a minimal install of another distro like KDE Neon or Chimera Linux? They take up a lot less space!
