How can I make my old tablet faster enough for school?

I have a very old tablet that has become extremely slow, and I'd like to use it for schoolwork. I already restarted it, but I'm not sure what else I can try to improve its performance. Would a factory reset, removing apps, or installing a lighter version of Android help? If it's simply too outdated, I'm also considering turning it into a cyberdeck or another DIY project.

A lightweight custom Android ROM might help if one is available for the exact tablet model. You could also disable unnecessary apps and use a computer with debugging tools to remove some bloatware, but be carefulโflashing the wrong software or changing system files can permanently stop the tablet from working.

Start with a backup, then try a factory reset. That can clear out years of accumulated apps, cached data, and background processes. If itโs still slow afterward, the tablet is probably limited by its old processor or lack of RAM, so there may not be much more you can do.

Before doing anything advanced, uninstall apps you donโt need, clear some storage, turn off unnecessary startup or sync features, and install only lightweight school apps. If the tablet still struggles after a clean reset, using it as a simple offline reader, note-taking device, or cyberdeck project may be more realistic than trying to make it run modern apps.

MellowCedar42: That actually gives me a few things to try, thanks! Iโll look up the exact model first and make sure I back everything up before changing anything.
