I'm moving soon and plan to build a new PC using my existing SSD and DDR5 memory to avoid current RAM and storage prices. The old system has an Intel i7-13700F and an Nvidia RTX 3090, while the new build will use a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and an MSI B850M Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard. What steps should I follow to boot safely without formatting the SSD? Should I remove the old drivers or reinstall Windows before or after swapping the hardware?

You can try keeping the existing installation, but remove as much old hardware software as possible first. Use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove the Nvidia graphics driver, then shut down and replace the hardware. Once the new system boots, install the AMD chipset and Radeon drivers. Windows may handle the motherboard change, but old Intel chipset or motherboard utilities can cause problems, so make a full backup before trying this.
Don’t manually remove every driver from Device Manager unless there’s a specific problem. Back up the SSD, make sure you can access your Windows recovery key or installation media, then install the new parts and test booting. If Windows becomes unstable, fails to boot, or has driver conflicts, use the installer to perform a clean installation rather than spending too long repairing the old setup.
Do it after the new hardware is installed. The installer should run on the configuration you’ll actually use, and disconnecting other drives during installation helps prevent Windows from putting boot files on the wrong disk.
The cleanest and most reliable option is a fresh Windows installation after installing the new motherboard, CPU, and GPU. Back up anything important first, create a Windows installer on a USB drive, boot from it with only the target SSD connected, and install Windows. Then install the AMD chipset, network, audio, and Radeon drivers. You’ll likely need to reactivate Windows, depending on whether your license is transferable.
