Starting with Python is a great choice for data science! Definitely spend some time on the math side of things—statistics and linear algebra will be crucial when you dive into data analysis later. For projects, try working with real datasets instead of just following tutorials. You might analyze public datasets or even scrape data from websites, which will teach you a lot about data cleaning and visualization. Focus on coding and problem-solving for now rather than worrying about certificates; your time is better spent getting hands-on experience!
